Developing a mature Food Safety and Quality Culture is a fundamental requirement for continuous improvement and site-wide accountability. The following table details a comprehensive, “living” action plan designed to build, measure, and enhance this culture across an organization.
The framework is structured around five key pillars:
- Communication
- Training
- Employee Feedback
- Performance Measurement (covering both behaviours and process outcomes)
- Plan Review & Improvement
For each pillar, the plan specifies the core activities, implementation methods, measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and operational frequencies. A critical component is the integration of clear responsibilities for execution, alongside defined cycles for effectiveness reviews and clear escalation pathways.
This structured approach provides a complete, auditable overview of the site’s culture-building activities. While the plan is a valuable tool for any food safety system, it is also specifically designed to meet and exceed the requirements of the BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 9 (Clause 1.1.2). The plan’s overall performance is a mandatory input for the Senior Management Review and is updated annually based on the formal Food Safety Culture assessment.
